Able to connect with your student at least once a week during school hours.

Pass a background check and clearance requirements (more details below).

Complete one 2-3 hour volunteer program-specific virtual training session.

CLEARANCE
The Ed Fund coordinators will also guide volunteers to pass a background check and provide proof that you have tested negative for tuberculosis as part of the school district’s requirements. At present, due to the pandemic, we are working with remote nurses who can help with this last medical clearance step.
TRAINING
You will receive training on how to best engage with students and/or teachers and have a chance to ask any questions on your mind. For aspiring tutors for the literacy, math, and mindfulness programs, there will be additional training that provide guidance around session planning, activities, and effective practices. Volunteers will sign up for a training while applying.
STAFF SUPPORT
Each volunteer has a point person coordinator from the Ed Fund who will provide ongoing support and check-ins. Before you get started, our coordinators will match you with the right opportunity based on if you are volunteering for literacy or math programs, mindfulness program, mentoring, or general classroom support.
COMMUNITY
You will have a chance to become part of a larger community of volunteers who care deeply about San Francisco public schools. Invitations to volunteer virtual celebrations, supplemental trainings, and other special events throughout the year.
